But while he does get frustrated with her at times he’s generally supportive and continues the Remake’s trend of featuring genuinely nice people as its protagonists, instead of the sulky edgelords that more modern role-players tend to go for.FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE is a bold reimagining of the original FINAL FANTASY VII, originally released in 1997, developed under the guidance of the original key developers.
Sonon is a fun character too, as he’s older than Yuffie and yet she’s in charge of the mission. She’s also got elemental attacks that can be tuned to whatever enemy you’re fighting and there’s a neat reversal of Kratos’ axe where Yuffie can zap herself towards the ninja star rather than calling it back to her.Ī little later on Yuffie gets an ally in Sonon, with who she can create simple team-up attacks, which adds another welcome wrinkle to the combat. Her ninja star can be used for both ranged and close combat, as she softens up enemies from a distance, gets in close, and then jumps back out of range of any counterattacks. What helps to compensate for the reused content is that Yuffie’s combat system is very different from the other playable characters. If you want an excuse to see the next gen visuals without starting the whole game again this seem perfectly reasonable, although some will no doubt complain at the lack of new locations. There are some new areas and characters but most of Intermission reuses existing assets from the main game. Yuffie is working for the Wutai government to steal a secret weapon from Shinra, and so meets up with Avalanche to get their help. The story takes place somewhere in the mid-point of Remake’s story, at a point where Cloud is separated from the rest of the group. However, we enjoyed her bouncy personality – even though she’s supposed to be a deadly ninja thief – and found her surprisingly endearing. Whether you’ll embrace Yuffie herself is a different question, as many already found her annoying in the original game. Of course, if this was a brand-new game Yuffie probably wouldn’t be designed to have a giant ninja star, almost as big as she is, but Remake has to roll with a number of similar punches and you quickly learn to accept it. At first Yuffie is wearing a cloak that looks more like a paper cut-out in the way it moves and her giant ninja star just disappears into her back pocket when she goes to put it away, which looks surprisingly amateurish. Even though it’s a relatively small piece of DLC you feel the generational leap from the first moment, even if, again, there are some odd lapses.

Intermission takes full advantage of the enhanced graphics, with Yuffie’s first appearance occurring in front of an amazing view of Midgar in the distance.
Final fantasy intermission Patch#
It was always odd these didn’t get fixed in a patch but apparently it was something to do with how the game used Unreal Engine now there’s not only no problems with pop-in or blurry textures but several of them seem to have been reworked entirely. Most important though is a drastic shortening of load times and fixes for all the weird texture problems the original had (yes, including Cloud’s door).
Final fantasy intermission plus#
You now have an optional 60fps performance mode, as opposed to 4K at 30fps, plus a new lighting system and the addition of volumetric fog effects.
Final fantasy intermission upgrade#
You can buy Intermission and Intergrade together as one package or, if you’re using the free upgrade from the PlayStation 4 version, purchase Intermission separately – but this review will cover both. At the same time they’re releasing a new paid-for DLC expansion called Intermission, which is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 version. Instead, their focus was on this: a dedicated PlayStation 5 version of last year’s game, called Intergrade.
Square Enix has been extremely vague about how many parts there will be and didn’t even mention the next chapter during E3. That leads to the other reason Remake is somewhat misleading: last year’s game was only a fraction of the whole story and it’s going to take two or three more games to see it to the end. The word remake is a misnomer on several levels though, as not only is the battle system almost unrecognisable but the whole point of the game is that while it starts off the same, by the end the implication is that the story is going to diverge significantly from the PlayStation 1 version.
